Irresistible Bread Pakoda Recipe: A Perfect Crunchy Delight
Bread Pakoda Recipe
Ingredients:
- 6-8 bread slices (white or brown)
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
- Salt to taste
- Water (as needed)
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
For the Filling:
- 1 large potato, boiled and mashed
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, chaat masala, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add water to the dry ingredients and whisk until you achieve a smooth, thick batter. Make sure the batter is not too runny or too thick. Set it aside.
- In another bowl, prepare the filling mixture. Combine the mashed potato, chopped onion, green chilies, coriander leaves, chaat masala, and salt. Mix well to create a flavorful filling.
- Take a bread slice and trim off the edges if desired. Place a spoonful of the prepared filling in the center of the bread slice and spread it evenly.
- Cover the filling with another bread slice to form a sandwich. Press gently to seal the edges. Repeat this process with the remaining bread slices.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or kadhai over medium heat. The oil should be hot enough to fry the bread pakodas but not smoking.
- Dip each bread sandwich into the prepared gram flour batter, making sure to coat it on all sides.
- Carefully place the coated bread pakoda into the hot oil. Fry them until they turn golden brown and crisp on both sides. Flip them occasionally to ensure even frying.
- Once fried, remove the bread pakodas from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil on a paper towel.
- Repeat the frying process with the remaining bread pakodas.
- Serve the hot and crispy bread pakodas with mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or tomato ketchup. They are best enjoyed immediately!
Tips:
- You can experiment with different fillings like paneer (cottage cheese), cheese, or even a mix of vegetables to add variety to your bread pakodas.
- Ensure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to achieve a crispy texture. If the oil is too hot, the pakodas might turn brown quickly without being cooked inside.
- Feel free to adjust the spice level according to your preference by increasing or decreasing the amount of red chili powder and green chilies.
Conclusion:
Bread pakodas are a delightful snack that brings together the perfect combination of flavors and textures. This easy-to-follow recipe allows you to recreate this popular street food in the comfort of your own home. Enjoy the crispy goodness of bread pakodas as a snack or serve them as an appetizer at your next gathering. They are sure to be a hit!
